Okay, the delivery truck has come and gone, you’ve gone into the bathroom so the significant other, kids, dog–whatever! can’t bother you. Your new Kindle has been carefully unpacked and is fully charged. Looking down at your new toy, you ask yourself “What do I do now?”.
Well, other than the obvious–read–there are a few things you can do before you dive into all those books you ordered. (You did read my other post, correct?)
Set up your Blogs and Free books account - Go grab all your feeds and blogs and upload them via the instructions on Feedbooks. Download the index file from Feedbooks if you plan on using their free service. You can find the Feedbooks instructions here.
Read the manual. Yeah, yeah, I know–not fun. So save it for later and just go to the Quick-Start Guide. You’ll probably end up asking all your How-To questions on some forum anyway.
Download all those books you ordered while waiting or order some new books. For already ordered items, you can go to your Manage Your Kindle page in Amazon and either download to your pc, connect the USB and transfer, or better yet, just turn on WhisperNet and get them that way. If your budget is tight from the Kindle purchase, check out the Free and Cheap book links on my home page. For additional book resources, also check out the Kindle Book page.
You can also dress up your Kindle with some new accessories. I’ve previously posted about maximizing your Kindle.
Now go read! Happy Kindling!

Great Post!
Feedbooks is a great way to get public domain and creative commons books for your kindle, I’m glad you mentioned it.
BTW, (I hate to be that guy but…) I got caught up in all the kindle hype last night and I launched a site for a kindle book club this morning. http://kindlebookclub.mobi/
