Before Your Kindle Arrives
What can I do before I get my Kindle?
Before your Kindle gets shipped, there are some things you can do. Amazon puts up your Kindle info pretty quickly, quite some time before they ship.
All your Kindle info is on the Manage Your Kindle page.
Rename Your Kindle
You can reset the default name on your Kindle to something more personal to you. The default name in my experience is your first name, e.g. Danny’s Kindle. Your new name will appear in the 1-Click box under Send Wirelessly To. Access these settings on the Manage Your Kindle page.

Setup your Email
In order to send content to your Kindle via email, you must establish an authorized email sender. Documents sent as email attachments will be converted to Kindle format and sent wirelessley to your Kindle. Access this setting on the Manage Your Kindle page. More information on document conversion is in the Kindle Help section (Coming Soon).

Buy Kindle Books
You can purchase books prior to the arrival of your Kindle using the link in the above Buy Now image. You must click on Kindle Edition to see the purchase link.

When your Kindle arrives, your books will be waiting for you to download. You will be able to see these purchase on the Manage Your Kindle page
Add Books to a ‘Kindle’ Wish List
Option 1 – Add to your Wish List
New as of December 2009: You can now add books to a Wish list using buttons on the Kindle edition page. I’m still using Amazon’s Universal button (see below), because when adding using that button, I stay on the page. That way I can also send a Sample at the same time.

Option 2 – Create a Universal Wish List
Use the Universal Wish List link option on Amazon to add a link in your browser. Once the link has been added to your browser, you can add your Kindle items to any of your Amazon Wish Lists.

Get some Accessories!
One of my must-do things for Kindlers. See here for some suggestions.
