Here are some Tips, Tricks and Info for the Kindle 2.0

  • Type page number to go to specific page in Kindle Home
  • Do NOT let the battery drain until depleted.  Amazon recommends ‘topping off’ the battery
  • Press ALT+G to refresh the screen
  • ALT +DEL deletes the entire line when entering text in a search field
  • ALT+B adds a bookmark
  • UP on the controller or the BACK button closes search box
  • SHIFT+SYM starts Text-to-Speech (while in a book)
  • SPACEBAR opens the search box
  • ALT+SPACEBAR to play or stop MP3: 
  • ALT+F to Forward to next MP3: 
  • Search for content in the Kindle Store by a specific author: type in search bar “@author [author's name]” . This will narrow your Kindle Store search to find only books written by that author
  • When at the bottom of a page, DOWN on the controller goes to the top of that page
  • To charge while connected to the pc (in Windows) go to Start, My Computer.  Right-click the drive letter labeled Kindle and select Eject to use your Kindle while charging
  • Type your search criteria and move the cursor to the right two times for google, wikipedia or content search
  •  Charging light will turn green when fully charged
  • Press “menu” and on the top line, it will show the time (centered) and on the left, it will show the space available on your Kindle in MB.
  • ALT+SHIFT+ 1 thru 9 will change the line spacing; a different spacing for each number
  • If you are listening to something with the text-to-speech feature, you can pause the reading by pressing the space bar. Hit the space bar again to restart
  • While in Settings window
    • 411 – shows diagnostic data
    • 611 – shows current radio diagnostics data and keeps refreshing it
  • Turn WhisperSYNC off via Manage your Kindle, its at the very bottom of the page but only appears if you have more than one Kindle
  • ALT+SHIFT+G to take screen shots. Screenshots are saved into the documents folder, viewable when the Kindle is attached to the computer
  • To avoid the $ .10 charge for document conversion, email your attachment to Your...@free.kindle.com.  Amazon will return the converted document to you via email for manual uploading onto the your device.
  • If you need to return a Kindle purchase, you must do so within 7 days.  Use the Customer Service button on your Amazon Kindle Support page
