The Safety Factor Book I, II & III (The Use of Power) (Kindle Edition)

The phenomenal success of SciFi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica, Dune and Children of Dune have demonstrated that today’s audience is sophisticated. We want profound and realistic life experiences, original adventures (the new BSG has very little to do with the old), new story lines and new question to explore. Discussions about intense social issues, or even God, are no longer taboo (e.g. Robert Sawyer’s “Calculating God”). They’re actually sought out instead.
What if God actually exists, but is finite? Einstein and the Big Bang theory say our universe is not infinitely large. Stephen Hawking and quantum mechanics tell us is isn’t infinitely small either. So our universe no longer requires an “omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent” God to have created it. What are the scientific, philosophical, religious, psychological, mathematical and political ramifications of this “what if”?
The Safety Factor series explores this and many other profound questions in depth. The first book is set in the early 18th century, providing a platform for us to go back and reexamine the foundations of our current worldview, which was “cast in concrete” at that time. There we meet up with the science and technology of a time-traveling military submarine from the future. Our 18th century characters have to reconcile what they’ve learned with what humanity has discovered since then. This opens the door for us, the readers, to go back and reevaluate the premises on which our own worldview is based. And in the spirit off all serious science fiction, extrapolate what we now know into the future, and speculate as to what all of this may mean.
These ideas are sprinkled about in an engaging story centering around Maria, a young girl on an adventure that starts when she runs away from her abusive home. Much like an updated “Alice in Wonderland”, she runs into such things as great ladies, ship’s captains, pirates, spies, secret government projects, stealth politics, rogue organizations, genetic engineering, global warming, murder plots and even the collapse of civilization as she tries to find love and understand the universe around her.
The Safety Factor is also a series of romance novels. It follows no less than five separate romances throughout the first three books. Lady Farrell is on her way to be married to Count Marcel. Her handmaiden falls in love with the ship’s captain, only to be thwarted. Ensign Lesley is secretly in love with the submarine’s first officer, will she ever tell him? Rene Counts covertly uses the time travel technology to save Jean Tatlin from a murder that’s already occurred. And of course there is Maria, who finally finds unconditional love at the end of book three.
The Safety Factor is an “adult book” and contains a detailed exposé on the detrimental effects of sexual abuse, in particular incest, on the innocent individual and its resulting consequences for society and civilization itself. These details have been painstakingly researched for accuracy from a psychological point of view as well as from personal interviews with people who have actually experienced it. Reader discretion is advised.
The Safety Factor is a new science fiction epic that delivers a tremendous amount of entertainment and human understanding. Each book is a novel in itself. Together they comprise over 220,000 words. Just how deep does the rabbit hole really go? Read this series and find out!
